Elfriede Haf~Serafin 1933 ~ 2010 ~

The special bond of Mother and child is written with love on their hearts and souls and make them a part of each other forever. ~ author unknown

Mom passed away on July 21st. 2010 at 6:20 p.m. at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, CA.

Mom suffered a massive stroke that took her life. She left many who love her and will miss her deeply. Mom was a very special loving person. She was wise and comforting yet strong and graceful. Many of her friends and family would go to her when in need of comfort and advice. She loved life and loved dancing. In fact, that's what she was doing the night of her stroke. She was celebrating her best friends birthday, they danced, laughed and enjoyed the evening...so I know she enjoyed her life right up to the last minute.

I cannot even express the deep sadness I feel . . . mom and I were best friends, she knew how to calm me and point me in the right direction. I would always call her each and everyday to see how her day was, how she was feeling and to say goodnight . . . it's very strange that I cannot pick up the phone now to call her. I miss her very much.

Services for mom, Elfriede Haf-Serafin will be held this Friday, July 30th, 2010 at El Camino Memorial Park in the Chapel in San Diego.  Closed casket viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and her memorial service will be from 12:00 to 1:00 in the same Chapel.  We will be celebrating her wonderful life with a photo slideshow along with her favorite Classical music pieces. Mom will then be cremated and we will have a graveside burial on August 13th at 11:00 a.m.

Mom was born 21 March, 1933, and raised in Augsburg, Germany.  She was preceded in death by her mother, my grandmother, Lieselotte Haf on April 5th, 2010, and her father Adalbert Haf, February 9th, 1968, her brother Helmut Haf, Dec. 20th, 1994 and his twin brother, Adalbert Haf on October 3rd, 2004.  Mom is survived by her daughter: Virginia 'Gini' Webb, son-in-law, Steve Webb, granddaughter Lacie, great grandchildren: Emma and Ethan.

My Beautiful Mom ~

I wish I had positive news, but I don't. My beautiful mom is getting worse and it's time for me to let her know that it's ok and she can let go. My heart is breaking and I am loosing my best friend, my most favorite person in the world and I feel lost without her.

There is no way that she will recover from such a massive and extensive stroke as she had, and there is so much swelling of her brain. It's just her and I right now, as I type this, I have made the final (we were trying and hoping for some improvement) decision (along with the agreement with her husband and family) that tomorrow late morning, early afternoon when we are all together to let her go on her own.

I know this is what she would have wanted, this is for her, not for me or anyone else but for her.
I want to thank each and everyone of my wonderful friends, genea-friends and family members for your love, support and prayers...I know that I could not have gotten this far without you.
