Happy Birthday, Emilie Schallhammer Haf ~ 1871-1944 ~

~ Emilie (Schallhammer) Haf ~ 1871-1944 ~
Emilie (Schallhammer) Haf (1871-1944) was born on this day in 1871, in Munchen, Bayern, Germany. Emilie married my maternal great-grandfather, Adalbert Haf (1868-1952) on the 21st of October, in 1894 in Pfronten, Ostallgau, Bayern, Germany. My grandfather, Adalbert Haf (1907-1968) was one of 19 children...several had passed away, and some of the boys had died in WWII. I have so little information on Emilie and the children. Mom and I were just getting into the history of our Haf family and this portrait before she passed. I am  researching and asking as many questions as I can with my only living Aunt in Germany, my uncle's wife.

Both passed before I was born so I never had the opportunity to get to know either great-grandparent. As far as I know, this is the only photo I have of Emilie. I cropped her photo from this family portrait that mom had brought back from Germany, when my Oma passed.

Because many of my grandfather's siblings had passed or were in the military...not all are shown in this family portrait. The two framed photos sitting on the floor in front of my great aunt Fannie, and my great grandfather,  are my great-great grandparents, Mathias (1839-1902) and Franziska (Behringer) Haf (1838-1900)...the only portraits I know that exist of them.  I do not have all of the names of my ancestors in this photo.  There are names written on the back but a bit confusing as to who is who and for several, there is no name at all, so I am working on identifying each ancestor correctly (hopefully). The two adults sitting and to the right in the photo, are cousins of my great grandfather (sadly, no names).

The family portrait is very large and would not fit on my 8.5 x 11 Canon scanner, so I used my Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner and stitched the portrait together...because of my Flip-Pal, I am now able to scan and share several photos I have in my collection.

Wonderful family photo Gini. Sometimes you can identify the people in the photo's by the age that the person appears to be. Such a treasure though to be able to place a face with a name!

Thank you Terri...there are a few names written in very German handwriting on the back. Problem is where my Oma placed the names... a little confusing...I have photos of the girls so I am going to compare and hopefully figure it out, but there are no names for quite a few in the photo! I do love this portrait though, and it's a treasure I was lucky to get from Germany in the midst of all that was going on.

What a wonderful family photo. It is nice to see that your great great grandparents were honored by having their framed pictures in the overall photo. And, how lucky you are to even have images of g g grandparents this far back!

Thank you Kim...I really am very blessed that I acquired this photo all the way from Germany. I think it knew, that I am the keeper of our family's memories...it's in the right place and I am very grateful.
