~ Elfriede Haf and Liselotte Haf née Kaiser-Saule ~ Mom and grandmother to yours truly, the keeper of our family history.
I am guessing mom is about six or seven years old . . . which would date this photo, ca 1939.
I love this photo; I love that it is just of an everyday walk! I especially love that the building behind them has my maiden name, Kuhn, written on it.
Thank you, Joan . . . I recall mom telling me that it wasn't long after this that Augsburg was bombed . . . she was separated from her family for a very long time . . . she was sent to a farm to live with a family she had never met before. She said she remembers wondering how her family was not being able to speak or hear from them, and then the day she saw her father walking up the path to come and get her finally . . . she was so happy to go home. I can't imagine how hard that must have been.
That's great, Heather! I have an email into my cousin to see if she can identify this building for me. I fell in love with this photo too! I have a few more of mom that was taken in front of this building.

Great picture! I love those late 30s and early 40s pictures! Also, I would think that had to be a scary time to be in Germany.
