Today, we are remembering my paternal great-aunt Virginia 'Jenny' Probst née Ijames, on what would have been her 128th birthday. I never had the privilege of meeting her but I am honored to have been named after her and her niece, my aunt Virginia 'Ginnie' Eimes.  We have a lot of "Virginia's" in our family.

Eighteen years ago today, my father, John Adam Eimes passed away at St. Johns Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur, St. Louis, Missouri. His final resting place, next to my late brother, Michael (1974-1992), is at the beautiful Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Lemay, St. Louis, Missouri. My dad left behind many that love and miss him and who are so very proud of him. Rest in Peace, dad . . . .

 

Remembering Grandpa Robert Eimes ~ 1898-1979 ~

Robert Newton Ijames-Eimes, grandpa of yours truly, died on this date in 1979, in Louisville, Kentucky.

This newspaper piece above was given to me by my aunt Ginnie, Robert's daughter. It is the only photo that she has found of him and I am so grateful aunt Ginnie shared it with me. She said he was quite the character . . . sure would have liked to have known him.  Rest in Peace dear grandpa Robert.

Happy Birthday, Aunt Ginnie ~

Today, Eighty-four years ago, a very special aunt, to yours truly (the current keeper of our family history), was born to Robert N. Eimes (1898-1979) and Ines 'Inez' Eimes nee Tabeling (1908-1983).

It was in 2008, on my first → genealogy trip ←  to Kentucky, that I would meet my Aunt Ginnie for the first time in my life! When I started researching my family history, I discovered I had a long lost aunt.  We have grown very close to each other since, we talk every Wednesday and Sunday . . . I couldn't have been blessed with a more beautiful auntie!

This photo was taken of my aunt by a professional photographer and displayed in his studio window - aunt Ginnie looks like a movie star! She surprised  me with a copy of this beautiful photo, that now hangs in my home.

My grandfather: Adalbert Haf, 1907 ~ 1968,  he did not serve in the U.S. but he served in the German Mtn. Rangers and was shot in the arm/shoulder during WWII.  He loved serving.  Also in the photos with my grandfather is my Aunt Inge (the mother of my cousin Pete Kaps in photo to the right) and my Oma, Lieselotte Haf 1913 ~ 2010.

My cousin Pete Kaps (3rd on the right) served in the U.S. Army. Enlisted 28 May 1975, as private E-1. Made E-5 (Sgt) after 2.5 years. Cousin Pete's ETS date was 26 May 1978. He was E-5 (Sgt) when he left the service with an honorable discharge. He was a helicopter crewchief on a UH-1H  Huey Helicopter. Pete and I just re-connected after 30 years! Love my cousin Pete!

My Uncle, James Eimes (my father's brother) 1924 ~ 1989, served in the U.S. Army.

~ Building Dedication Ceremony Booklet ~

He served as a prototype nuclear plant instructor from 1970 until 1973 when he was selected for the Naval Enlisted Scientific Education Program. He earned his bachelor's degree and a master's degree in nuclear engineering from Purdue University in 1977. He was then commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1977. James was hand selected by Admiral Hyman G. Rickover for duty at Naval Reactors ( a joint program of the Department of the Navy and the Department of Energy) with cradle-to-grave responsibility for the reactors aboard all U.S. naval nuclear-powered warships. He retired from the Navy in 1989.

A building in Bremerton, Washington, was dedicated in his name:

A4W Fleet Interactive Display Equipment (FIDE) Training Simulator on September 11, 2008.

Building Dedication Ceremony front page of booklet reads as:

In recognition of his tireless commitment
to the training principles of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program,

we dedicate this building on September 11, 2008 to the memory of

Unfortunately, we know too many who are buried in this cemetery . . . Terry Bennett, (1965 ~ 2003) my husbands partner on the SDPD (lower right photo), who was killed while on duty on the 26th of June 2003.  Our beloved brother-in-law, Keith Tiffany (1948 ~ 1981), who was also killed while on duty, also with SDPD,  in 1981.

The photos in the above collage were taken on the 31st of May 2010 at the El Camino Memorial Park where my Oma (19 Dec 1913 ~ 5 Apr 2010) and my beautiful mom (21 Mar 1933 ~ 21 July 2010) are buried.
