Blog Caroling ~ Stille Nacht ~ Silent Night

Stille Nacht  (Silent Night) ~ Vienna Boys Choir ~

Silent Night (Stille Nacht)
In English

Silent night, holy night!
All is calm, all is bright.
Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child.
Holy infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight.
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia,
Christ the Savior is born!
Christ the Savior is born.

Silent night, holy night!
Son of God love's pure light.
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth.
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth

Stille Nacht (Silent Night)
In Deutsch (German)

Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht,
Alles schläft; einsam wacht
Nur das traute hochheilige Paar.
Holder Knabe im lockigen Haar,
Schlaf in himmlischer Ruh!
Schlaf in himmlischer Ruh!

Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht,
Hirten erst kundgemacht
Durch der Engel Halleluja,
Tönt es laut von fern und nah:
Christ, der Retter ist da!
Christ, der Retter ist da!

Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht,
Gottes Sohn, o wie lacht
Lieb' aus deinem göttlichen Mund,
Da uns schlägt die rettende Stund'.
Christ, in deiner Geburt!
Christ, in deiner Geburt!

This has been and always will be my very favorite Christmas song! Stille Nacht (Silent Night) was also my mom's very favorite and she loved the Vienna Choir it's perfect as to why I chose it for footnoteMaven' s Tradition of Blog Caroling...thank you  fM!

Gini, you and I are on the same wavelength here. I was thinking about recycling my Footnote Maven entry from last year, too.

Best wishes for a blessed Christmas for you and your family, if we don't connect again before then!

I am glad I stumbled upon your blog. I also was born in Germany and came to the states via my army Dad and Mom (both German born). We now live in NC but my son lives in San Diego with his wife and son. I am now subscribed to your posts.

Cathy, I am so glad you stopped by too . . . if you are in San Diego, let me know, maybe we can meet. It's great to always meet a fellow German family history friend. What part of Germany were you born in?

Take care and Happy Holidays to you and yours.

My husband and I are both in the church choir and we are practicing this one right now. It's going to be beautiful at the Christmas Eve mass.

Thanks for sharing this lovely video.

Very nice, Gini! I shared this with my son who loves German and who needed some cheering up after yesterday's happenings in Connecticut! He lives not far away in Massachusetts.

Debra, thank you so much. I hope it helped your son and if it did in anyway, it makes me very happy. What happened yesterday makes us realize that we need to support and take care of each other.

Silent Night, whether in English or German (especially German), has always been my favorite. Thank you so much for stopping by . . . I'm so glad you did. Happy Holidays to you and yours.
