Hugh Watkins of the blog: GENEALOGE, passed away on the 29th of December 2009. He will very much be missed. Please visit Hugh's online Obit, services will be held on January 14th, 2010.
I did not know Hugh directly but read his blog many times. GENEALOGE has been a genealogy blogger for many years. I know the genealogy blogging community will miss his posts and presence.
Reading his last post on the 25th of December is very sad, knowing we won't hear from him again, we have lost "one of us." This also brings a question to my mind -- what will now happen to Hugh's blog, his many years of work, blogging, sharing and documenting his finds and of his family history? I hope Hugh's blog stays here forever so that we can in some way keep his memory alive, learn from what he gave us and years from now, his descendants will have an online journal. I would very much like to know if you have any thoughts and ideas.
What happens to our blogs after we pass is worth checking into and to see what it is we can do to make sure our blogs are preserved for generations to come.
~Rest in Peace Hugh~

Nice tribute Gini. Thank you for saying it so well.
Thanks for posting this Gini, you said a lot of what I've been thinking. I also only knew him through following his blog. I heard of his passing and went to his blog only to find that last post and I haven't been able to forget it since. It has reminded me to treasure what I have since any of it, or me, could be gone in an instant.
I don't really have an answer to your question about what becomes of our blogs when we are gone, but one of the things I do is get my blog posts via Tabbloid. It picks up my RSS feed and sends me the post in PDF format. I save them to a folder on my computer.
